RIDING OUT THE STORM

The storms in life can rise without warning and change lives and inner world. Being on the West Coast hurricanes are always a concern.

Being really exhausted from working so hard for this company I was with, deadlines were so intense it was almost impossible to take a whole week off at a time. I prayed to Father to come rescue me, send a hurricane or something. Shortly after that prayer I had a vision of a beach type man with his shirt unbuttoned driving a 66 Chevy Chevelle (blue) driving down I-45 coming to rescue me. Couldn't help but bust out with a big smile.

Several years ago, we peoples here in Houston were expecting a big hurricane ... his name was IKE. Houstonians watched the weather channel furiously, all anticipated a category 4 hurricane.

All people scurried, bought candles rented generators, bought bottled water and batteries. Every shelf was emptied, no bread, no water hardly any canned goods. I to was preparing, many prepared to leave town as the weather reports became more intense. Predications showed the eye of the storm to make landfall in Matagorda, just and hour southwest from the outskirts of Houston. That's like an upper cut punch in the face ... I knew this was going to be bad. I've lived in Houston for over 40 years and never such an intense storm hit. The last was Carla in 1936.

I didn't plan on leaving but was pressured from family members. My plan was to take the kids and hunker down at the local elementary school. I had animals too that I was concerned for, had a Great Dane and four snoodles. The family pressure from the ex's side became intense, I watched the weather channel and prayed with all my heart "Father, I know I asked for a storm but I don't want anyone hurt. Please break down this storm and decapitate it into nothing.

All of Houston was praying also, unawares much the same as my prayer. Back to the weather reports they now moved the storm to make landfall right on the gulf coast in Galveston and stated the eye was going to come straight down I-45.

My ex became insane with his aggression and instituted I leave with the kids and go to East Texas, Tyler where its much further away. I gave in and loaded the kids, the Great Dane and my snoodles all in my little Geo Sedan. Was advise to take the tollway up to I-45, so I followed planned. What my ex didn't know was the tollway to I-45 was closed. I had to exit and get unto I-45 ... traffic was at a stand still. People turning their cars off and in a standstill. Running out of gas, gas stations were backed up for miles and running out of gas. I move a quarter of a mile in and hour. My AC begin to just blow warm air, everyone was sweating and the Dane was drawling over all of us.

I had hade it! I took the next exit and got to the nearest pay phone so my son could call his Dad and tell him of the conditions of the road with all the evacuees. He got mad at my son and told him the hurricane split into two eyes. My son was so freaked out, I went back to my original plan and headed home, going to go to the local school for shelter. We arrived home at 3:00AM in the morning and I was exhausted. I watched the weather channel more and now predictions stated the storm was downgraded to a Category 2. I've been through a Category 3 storm and even though its a bit frightening I knew it was survivable. I told my ex this and he became furious, told me he didn't want his kids and danger an accused me of being negligible and irresponsible. I was so upset because I have taken good care of the children and always made informed decisions.

My ex's girlfriend was going to Tyler too and my ex talked to my son and essentially emotionally bullied him into coming. So my son who was 14 at the time, went with her down I45. He told me later it took them 24 hours just to get out of Houston .

The weather reports began to change completely, now the storm was dimensioning all together, completely breaking down except for the eye which was now just a pocket of strong wind with a some rain and lighting. Now they predicted that this would travel up through Northern Texas and go through Tyler. They received fierce winds and rain, hail and lighting with numerous trees snapped in half. Peoples here in Houston didn't even get any rain, but Houston learned they needed a better evacuation plan, much good came from it.

Through the storm, literally and emotionally GOD heard our plea, he changed all things in the wake of an enormous disaster and also set right those wrongs that were impressed upon myself from my ex because of his fear. I trusted GOD with all of it, not one soul was harmed.

AMEN
